To usher in the 2008 Christmas season, The Upstagers will present A Taffeta Christmas as a dinner theater December 5, 6, 12, and 13, the first two weekends in December. The show is a sequel to The Taffetas which the Upstagers presented several years ago at the old San Felipe Country Club. It was so popular that The Upstagers extended it for an extra weekend.
A Taffeta Christmas will star Kathryn McWilliams, Terra Wade, Lauren Duke, and Dia Worling singing those old 50's favorites in close harmony. Kathryn and Terra are veteran Upstagers and Lauren and Dia were discovered recently. Our audiences will remember Kathryn as Miss Mona in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Terra, as Glinda the Good Witch in The Wizard of Oz. Dia and Lauren will step out of their tree costumes from The Wizard of Oz and amaze the audience with their professionally trained voices.
The show tells the story of four sisters from Muncie, Indiana, who have gone off to find fame and fortune in New York City with the new medium called television. Now the sisters have returned in triumph to Muncie to do a live broadcast at the Moose Hall (all TV was live then). The entire production takes place on stage with the Upstagers' audience serving as the 1950's Muncie, Indiana, audience. The songs weave hits from the fifties with some old Christmas standards and some new parodies.
Karen Swint of Karen's Caterer's will cater the event. The menu for the first weekend will be roast beef with mashed potatoes and brown gravy, dinner salad, vegetables, rolls with butter, a choice of carrot cake or sour cream cherry/almond cake, coffee and tea. The second weekend's menu will be mesquite grilled turkey with gravy, dressing, vegetables, dinner salad, rolls with butter, a choice of carrot cake or sour cream cherry/almond cake, coffee and tea.
Dinner will be served at 6:30 and the show will start at 8:00 p.m. Tickets and reservations must be for a specific night, so check your calendar first. Remember, neither The Upstagers nor the Broke Mill has a liquor license, so guests may bring their own. Come on out, enjoy the show, and support Del Rio's community theater.
