Pet Policy

TATO SAYS

Pets are welcome at Broke Mill RV Park, and we want you to enjoy having your pet here.  In the park area, pick up after your pet and maintain control of your pet at all times.  Pets should be constrained or on leash in the park.  Guests are limited to two pets per site.  Guests that create a nuisance to others or fail to pick up after their pet may be asked to leave the park.

The large cleared field on the east end of the park is a free zone for you to take your pet to run and play.  You can be off leash in this area as long as you can maintain control and not bother others.  Please keep the roadways clear of litter.

ABOUT TATO

Tato was raised on the family ranch in Real County, Texas.  At the ranch his main job was security around the house keeping the predators away from the livestock and keeping the coons out of the feed barn.  At night he would lay in a good spot where he could see everything, and if some critter were to try to get at the feed barn, he would promptly put it in a tree and hold it, giving three barks every 30 minutes until someone came out to dispatch it.

After my father passed away, my mother brought him to me in Brackettville.  I didn’t have a feed barn, but he quickly learned that we didn’t want rattlesnakes around the house.  His method is to corner the snake against a wall and give a different type of bark, more frantic, until someone comes out to deal with the snake.

When I started constructing the buildings in the RV Park, I started staying on site to watch the building materials.  I brought Tato over and within a few days he figured out his new job to alert me to strangers coming in after dark.

I never intended to have him in the park after opening, but after the first guests started arriving, they liked having him around and made me bring him back after I took him home.  In his mind he is working in the park every day.  He has now figured out to alert me to new arrivals if I am away from the office.  He knows who is supposed to be in the park, and if someone or something strange appears he will let me know.

Don’t be surprised if he walks out to greet you when you arrive at the park, or comes over to get his head rubbed if he sees you sitting down.  He will not bother your pet, and if you choose not to pet him just say NO and he will walk away.  Please refrain from feeding him as this will alter what he has learned is expected of him.
